About the Opportunity

Due to ongoing growth, Hillery Group is currently looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic/Fitter to join the team at their quarries in Bowen, QLD.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for the repairs and maintenance of almost 200 vehicles and machines, ensuring everything is in top condition to ensure the safety of each operator and the wider Hillery Group team.

More specifically, your day to day duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Undertaking breakdown and preventative maintenance or repairs of plant, fleet and equipment, in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements and company standards;
  • Maintaining relevant records on servicing, maintenance and repair works, including the completion of al necessary paperwork such as purchase orders, invoicing, service records;
  • Preparing parts lists for purchasing, liaising with the Purchasing Officer to organise materials, tools, and other resources required;
  • Reporting on the condition, and the efficiency of operation, of plant and equipment that work is being undertaken on; and
  • Working collaboratively and assisting coworkers as needed, including acting as a mentor for apprentices and trade assistants as required.

About You

To be considered for this position, you must have a trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic or Fitter, with significant recent experience in the repair of earthmoving plant, trucks, trailers, or tractor-based equipment.

Confident diagnosing and repairing mechanical problems, you will take pride in your work and be serious about safety, meeting or exceeding quality standards by working safely and effectively.

A team player, you'll be able to work both unsupervised and as part of a team, happy to support apprentices or trade assistants by utilising your experience to act as a mentor where needed.

Punctual and reliable, with good time management skills, you'll be able to work under tight deadlines without compromising on quality. You will also be comfortable working the overtime hours involved in this role, including participation in weekend shifts as required.

Any additional tickets or licenses, such as forklift or truck licenses, would be an advantage.

Please note: Successful candidates must have a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence and pass a pre-employment Medical and Drug and Alcohol test.
